Luxury, Aesthetics, and Eco-Friendly: 6 Shelf Porn Products Worth the Splurge

Updated: Jan 27

Hey girlfriend! I first came across the term "shelf porn" in a Substack post by the writer and former brand owner, Slutty Founder. The term made me laugh because not only is it humorously misleading, but it also perfectly captures the thrill I get from having a well-coordinated medicine cabinet. There’s something about matching products that just makes me happy, especially when I can mix and match brands. It’s like creating my own curated collection of self-care.

As we age and gain more experiences, our tastes naturally evolve. This is true not only in our travels, food preferences, and hobbies, but also in our hygiene routines. Some of us lean toward eco-friendly products with a purpose, while others are willing to indulge in luxurious items crafted with conscious ingredients. Personally, I’ve found myself somewhere in between—especially when a brand blends it all with a minimalist aesthetic.

If you’ve read my previous post, you might recognize some of these brands. I love sharing my favorites, and today I’m bringing you six aesthetically pleasing, eco-friendly, and luxurious brands that will take your routine to the next level.

Necessarie products

Necessaire

The Brand

Necessaire is a body care brand that offers more than just aesthetic appeal. While their sleek bottles look beautiful in your shower, it’s the high-quality ingredients that truly stand out. Packed with ceramides and gentle exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA, etc.), their products can be fragrance-free or feature light, luxurious scents. You can shop their online store by body concerns, and most of their products are dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, and vegan. Necessaire’s commitment to transparency goes beyond just ingredients—they also highlight their climate-conscious efforts, including partnerships with non-profits, recycling guidance, and eco-friendly certifications.

The Experience

I first tried Necessaire in 2022, and it was a game-changer, opening the door to luxury body care for me. I experimented with brands like Truly (home of the whipped butters in cute glass bottles) and the infamous Natrium, but I always came back to Necessaire. Their products have been great for keeping my occasional bacne at bay while helping reduce skin discoloration. I’ve tried their oblium, eucalyptus, sandalwood, and fragrance-free lines, and I adore the subtle, luxurious scents. I also appreciate their clear bottles, which make it easy to know exactly when to restock. The real cherry on top for me, though, is their customer service—I've reached out to them on Instagram, and their quick, helpful responses have only strengthened my loyalty.

OUAI

The Brand

Ouai is a hair and skin care brand that brings an island-inspired touch to your routine. With tropical scents and luxurious formulations, their products elevate your self-care ritual. Ouai offers solutions tailored to different hair types, including a body and scalp scrub that lathers beautifully and a deeply moisturizing body crème that rivals their hair masks. They also offer refill options, allowing you to keep your plastic container and reduce waste—saving the turtles, one bottle at a time. What really sold me on Ouai, however, is their diverse and LGBTQ+supportive team behind the brand.

The Experience

I came a bit late to the Ouai party, even though their aesthetic had appeared on my Pinterest feed countless times. I’d fill up my cart but never check out. That changed after the Mielle Organics ownership controversy and my disappointing experience with Odele (though I still love their gel). Finally purchasing Ouai in 2024 was one of my best decisions. Their products have redefined what it means to care for curly hair. I used to think a product that didn’t leave my curls crunchy wouldn’t give me definition—but Ouai’s curl crème proved me wrong. My curls are soft, defined, and beautifully separated. On top of that, Ouai has helped me streamline my hair care routine, aligning with my minimalist goals while keeping things stylish.

Quip

The Brand

Quip was created by a dentist with the goal of improving everyday oral care habits. What I love about the brand is that they’ve gone beyond simply making another toothbrush—they’ve created an experience. From their sleek toothbrushes to mouthwash containers and floss holders, each product is designed to elevate your routine. Quip also offers a user-friendly app that tracks your brushing habits. Showing consistency and quality rewards you with points that can be redeemed for gift cards or oral care accessories. With a subscription option for automatic delivery, Quip makes maintaining your oral care routine easy and convenient.

The Experience

I’ve been using Quip for years and it’s one of my favorite brands. When I first saw it at Target, I thought it was overpriced—but looking back, it was a worthy investment. I bought the rechargeable toothbrush, so I only need to replace the brush head every few months, reducing waste. I love the built-in timer that ensures I brush long enough, and the app that tracks my progress and rewards me for my efforts. But honestly, the main reason I love Quip is the aesthetic. The toothbrush is not only a pleasure to use, but it’s also a joy to look at. With sleek, modern designs and a variety of colors, Quip has transformed brushing my teeth from a mundane task to something I look forward to.

Ouai products

Salt & Stone

The Brand

Salt & Stone is a skincare line that elevates the fragrance game. Inspired by the Earth, they draw on natural elements to craft their scents and products. Sustainability is at the heart of their mission—bottles are made from upcycled plastic, glass, and aluminum, and they’re manufactured in facilities powered by solar and hydroelectric energy. This Leaping Bunny-certified brand specializes in gender-neutral scents that are earthy, cozy, and sophisticated. Their product lineup includes lotions, creams, deodorants, and mini sets, making it easy to explore their offerings before committing to a favorite.

The Experience

I discovered Salt & Stone while searching for a new deodorant. My usual pick is Wild, which is also super sustainable, but I decided to branch out and give Salt & Stone a try. I ordered the Santal & Vetiver scent on a whim. While it was a bit muskier and earthier than I’d typically choose—honestly, I’d probably prefer it on a man—it grew on me. What really won me over was its performance: no need for reapplication during the day, and it doesn’t cling stubbornly to my skin like some aluminum-based deodorants. After realizing how well it worked, I ordered another scent to try, and I’m excited to see how it compares. Beyond its effectiveness, the sleek packaging makes it a pleasure to use, and the fragrance truly lasts all day. It’s safe to say Salt & Stone has become my new favorite.

Philosophy

The Brand

Philosophy is a brand that empowers women from the inside out, focusing on both skin health and mental well-being. They’ve donated millions toward grants and treatments for women’s mental health issues, a mission that’s evident in their uplifting product names like Hope and Grace. Beyond their inspiring messaging, Philosophy is also dedicated to sustainability. They use FSC-certified packaging, manufacture with renewable electricity, and have achieved zero industrial waste to landfills—all while offsetting their carbon emissions. Philosophy is truly a trailblazer in eco-chic skincare.

The Experience

I first discovered Philosophy in a friend’s shower—their Cinnamon Bun shower wash caught my attention with its incredible scent. It smelled so good, I was immediately transported to a bakery, leaving me hungry for more. Intrigued, I googled the brand and stumbled upon their Cashmere scent, a warm and creamy vanilla fragrance. The shower gel was thick, rich, and lathered beautifully. Naturally, I followed up with the matching lotion, which didn’t disappoint. It kept my skin deeply moisturized, and the scent lingered throughout the day, offering subtle, delightful whiffs. While Philosophy isn’t a regular in my routine anymore, it’s a brand I still turn to for special gifts or as a treat for myself. It’s luxurious, thoughtful, and perfect for those moments when you need a little indulgence.

Odele

The Brand

Odele is a haircare brand that brings luxury to the shelves of Ulta and Target. Its inclusivity makes it appealing to people with a range of hair textures, from waves to curls. All of their products are clean—you won’t find formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, or other harsh ingredients in their formulas, and the full ingredient lists are readily available on their website. Odele takes pride in sourcing non-commodity, high-end raw materials from Minnesota, and everything is proudly made in the USA. Featured in respected publications like People, Allure, and Coveteur, Odele strikes a perfect balance between affordability and trustworthiness.

The Experience

I shared my mixed feelings about Odele earlier, so here’s the breakdown. While I like the brand and think their products work well, they just don’t give me the exact results I need to complete my haircare routine.

Their curly hair shampoo and conditioner? Amazing. They provide plenty of slip and moisture, making detangling effortless. But when it comes to styling my hair for a wash-and-go, I couldn’t find a product in their line that was heavy enough to suit my preferences. However, for twist-outs and sleek styles, Odele delivers. Their gel, with its light fruity scent, is lightweight but super effective. Even though I don’t use their full range of products regularly, the gel has earned a spot in my rotation. Overall, I love Odele for its affordable price point and luxurious quality. It’s a fantastic option for those looking to elevate their haircare routine without breaking the bank.

If you're ready to elevate your self-care routine with products that look as good as they work, these six brands are the perfect place to start. Whether you're into minimalist aesthetics, eco-conscious choices, or a little luxury indulgence, there’s something here for everyone. Trust me, your shelf (and your routine) will thank you.
