From Procrastination to Evolution: Creating Your Best Self

Updated: Jan 29

Hey girlfriend! Things are always growing, changing, and flowing, but evolution—true evolution—is a choice. It's a conscious decision we have to make every single day.

If we're not evolving, we’re unknowingly choosing to devolve. This is true for plants, relationships, habits—literally everything. We often don't think about progress in this way. We procrastinate on our goals, convincing ourselves that "tomorrow" is just as good as today. But is it? What if God had said, “Eh, I don’t feel like making the sun come up today. I’ll do it tomorrow”? A full 24 hours without sunlight would send the world into chaos. Thankfully, the weight of the world isn’t on our shoulders—only the weight of our own personal one.

I don’t mean to put humans on the same level as our Creator, but we have a responsibility in shaping our own reality. We’re capable of incredible things. Think about athletes, millionaires, performers—their achievements are proof of what human adaptability and persistence can accomplish when we refuse to quit. Sadly, many of our goals remain out of reach because we keep putting in the work “tomorrow.” But here's the thing: tomorrow never actually arrives. We’re always stuck in today. The present moment. And now is the best time to start evolving.

Once you start your evolution, there’s another challenge: to keep evolving. Complacency can easily slip in, and before we know it, we’re just going through the motions, stuck in our routines. But evolution demands more. It calls for continuous progress. We shouldn’t settle for just getting by with the bare minimum; we need to push ourselves, to evolve. Everyone dreams of creating something great, but remember: greatness doesn’t happen overnight.

So, how do we make this evolution stick? Here are a few tips to keep you on track:

  1. Have a habit tracker. Sometimes, seeing your progress visually can be the push you need to stay consistent. Whether it’s a physical journal or an app, track your habits and celebrate your wins, no matter how small.

  2. Reward yourself. When you hit milestones in your personal growth journey, take time to celebrate. Rewards keep you motivated and remind you that every step forward counts.

  3. Find an accountability partner. Share your goals with someone who will keep you accountable, cheer you on, and encourage you on the days when motivation is running low. Having that support makes all the difference.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not perfect, and that’s not what I want to portray. I run late, I eat junk food, and I love a good nap. But the people around me will vouch for the fact that my good habits outweigh the bad. My daily practices—working out, meditating, eating well, reading—have become second nature to me. At one point, I didn’t think I was seeing any progress, but now, years later, I can honestly say I feel better physically and mentally. It’s the little sacrifices—made day by day—that have added up to create real change, much like how the Great Wall of China was built, one brick at a time.

“In the end, it will be impossible to know who did too much, but it will be quite apparent who did too little.” — Anonymous

The seed starts in the ground. The caterpillar transforms in the cocoon. But most people only move when they know someone is watching. What happens when the crowd is gone, and there’s no one there to cheer you on? Do you stop performing, or do you keep going? The question isn’t whether you have what it takes—because, of course, you do. The real question is: are you willing to do what it takes?
