Hey girlfriend! Traveling is an exciting adventure most of us look forward to, but let’s be honest—security checkpoints, delays, and surprise fees can sometimes suck the life out of your well-deserved R&R. To help you avoid some of these common travel headaches, I’ve compiled a list of hacks that have saved me more than once.
1. Check in at Home
This one’s a classic—and for good reason. Checking in online before you even leave for the airport can save you tons of time. Not only will you skip long lines at the check-in counter, but you’ll also have your boarding pass ready to go (no paper ticket to lose, and bonus—saving trees!). Some airlines even allow you to board earlier if you check in first, so if you ever find yourself running late due to traffic or other hiccups, this tip can relieve a lot of stress.

2. Breeze Through TSA
Avoiding the check-in lines is great, but that doesn’t always mean a smooth TSA experience. To save time, you can invest in TSA PreCheck or Clear. These services let you skip the longer lines and make your security process faster and more convenient, often without having to take off your shoes or remove electronics. If you're on a budget, try flying out of smaller airports or on weekdays when there are fewer travelers and shorter lines. If you're stuck in a long TSA queue, remember to keep your laptop and other devices easily accessible and remove anything from your bag that might trigger a search.
3. Dress Comfortably
Gone are the days when people wore suits and heels to the airport. Today’s airport fashion is all about comfort—and it’s a good thing! Think sweatsuits, matching two-piece sets, and athleisure. These outfits are not only stylish but flexible, making them perfect for those awkward airport positions. They’re also great for TSA, as they help you avoid having to remove a belt or struggle with tight clothing. And don’t forget comfy sneakers that you can easily slip on and off, helping you breeze through security and avoid foot pain during those long airport walks.
4. Hydration and Nutrition
Once you’re past TSA, there’s another challenge: airport food prices. What should cost $10 outside the airport can easily run you $20 inside. To avoid paying inflated prices, eat before you get to the airport, or if you need to grab something there, look for restaurants where you can use reward points or coupons. Also, TSA has rules about liquids but not dry foods—so feel free to bring along snacks like chips or candy to curb your appetite. For hydration, bring an empty bottle to fill once you're through security. If you forget, Starbucks is a great option since they often provide complimentary water.
Bonus Tip: Only Bring a Carry-On
For those up for the challenge, try packing only a carry-on. It eliminates the risk of damaged or lost luggage and avoids delays associated with checked bags. Plus, having your luggage with you means you can grab what you need quickly once you land, and you can leave the airport faster!
Traveling can definitely test your patience, but with these tips in your pocket, your trips will be a whole lot smoother. Safe travels!
