Whether you’re a dog mom, a stepmom, or someone who stepped up to become a mom, today we give thanks for all the love, grace, and sacrifices mothers provide.
This blog is dedicated to the purpose behind it: a very special woman in my life. Her legacy, love, and life were the inspiration for every word I write here.

Her name was Katherine Dorsey. She gave birth to three beautiful girls and one granddaughter. She had hardworking hands— hands that swept office floors, cleaned toilets, and wiped countertops for a living. Those hands… those tired, thrifty hands that sewed clothes for her daughters, that handed out church programs every Sunday, that watered plants and flowers along the yard. Hands that steered the car to the side of the road to help a stranger. Hands that gave me birthday cards with folded bills of money. Hands that held me tight when I cried, wiping my face and soothing my fears.
Those hands were tough. Tender. Strong. Soft. Calloused. Creative. Heavy. Holy.
I would give anything to feel those hands again. Though I know I won’t touch them physically again, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally, they guide me through life every day.
This blog was born in January 2021, just a month after my grandmother’s passing. Though she’s gone, her presence still lives on— through her family, her church, her friends, and through me. Through this blog: a space dedicated to women and the incredible complexity we embody.
Whether today is painful or joyful for you, I stand with you. Let’s honor what this day represents. It’s a reminder that somewhere, a shero sacrificed so you could stand here. She used her superwoman powers to care for you. And whether she was biological or someone who stepped in to love you, make her proud. Give her a reason to smile today
